Join me every Friday at 6:30pm SGT for the Moon Salutation practise. Please check out my Instagram account @yoga.with.jade for schedule of my other zoom yoga classes.
We are mostly familiar with the more commonly known Sun Salutation, but practitioners of Moon Salutation or Chandra Namaskar will extol the virtues of this more calming, but no less powerful practise.
Practitioners of today gravitate towards a more fiery, physically demanding and very 'yang' Sun flow, which may sometimes deplete your energy when the body is not receptive at certain times of your cycle. That's when the sister sequence in the Moon flow will fill in very nicely and complete you.
Chandra Namaskar is a quieting practise with a focus on the natural breath and consists of a series of poses performed in a particular sequence to create a calming energy that gets the prana moving all over the body. This replenishes and restores the system and gives the body an outlet for cooling down.
It's prudent to pay special attention to the quality of each movement and this practise allows you time to do just that. Instead of moving too quickly and intensely, move as if through water. This adds a beautiful element to one's practise and goes a long way into preserving vitality.
