Things to Consider When Buying a Travel Yoga Mat

  • Weight and packability: a travel yoga mat should be easy to carry. Ours weighs around 1.6kg and rolls into its travel bag.
  • Thickness and cushioning: thinner mats are lighter, but they offer less cushioning. At 2mm, ours suits most flows and standing practice. If you want extra padding for knees, pair it with a Yoga Pad.
  • Roll, do not fold: a mat folded into a bag can crease. Choose a mat designed to be rolled, and store it with the coloured side facing outward. Our care guide explains how.
  • Grip: hotel floors, studio floors and grass are all different. Look for a surface that grips on both the floor and your hands.
  • Size: at 180cm, our travel mat is slightly shorter than our regular size. Taller yogis who want more length may prefer to travel with a regular or Extra Large mat when space allows.

No. Our travel mat is designed to be rolled, not folded, because folding can leave visible creases. Roll it with the coloured side facing outward and slide it into the travel bag that comes with it.

Is a travel yoga mat comfortable enough for daily practice?

It offers some cushioning, but being thinner than a regular mat it will feel firmer. Many yogis are happy with it for flows and standing practice. If you want more support for knees or wrists, add a Yoga Pad.

Should I buy a travel mat or a regular mat?

How do I clean and care for a travel yoga mat?

Let it dry flat after use, then roll it with the coloured side outward. Every 5 to 10 practices, spread 3 to 5 pumps of our Ultimate Everyday Yoga Mat Cleaner over a damp sponge, leave it for 30 seconds and wipe with a clean damp sponge.
