Black Girls in Social Work (BGSW) is a national organisation dedicated to empowering and supporting a network of over 30,000 Black women in the Social Work profession. Through a combination of community-building initiatives, professional development opportunities, and wellness events, BGSW addresses the unique challenges faced by Black women in a field that often overlooks their contributions and needs.

The biennial Homecoming Weekend Conference is a cornerstone of our mission, bringing together hundreds of Black women in Social Work from across the country to connect, recharge, and elevate their personal and professional advancement. For our 2025 conference, themed "Beyond Balance," we are committed to providing participants with tools and experiences that foster alignment, intentionality, and lasting success. This theme directly addresses the need to move beyond traditional notions of work-life balance, instead encouraging holistic well-being and fulfilment.
A key feature of the conference is the wellness sessions, where yoga plays an integral role. These sessions are designed to create a safe, inclusive space for Black women to practice yoga, experience mindfulness, and connect with their bodies in a way that promotes healing and rejuvenation. By integrating yoga into the conference, BGSW is actively working to break barriers in the wellness and yoga industry—a space that often lacks representation and accessibility for women of colour.
Our goal is to use yoga not only as a tool for wellness but also as a platform to advance racial diversity within the broader yoga community. We aim to normalise the presence of Black women in yoga spaces and encourage them to explore wellness practices that have historically excluded them.
