Why other Yoga Mats Fall Short

Poor Performance
PVC and other low-quality Yoga mats are made from materials unsuitable for an effective practice. They tend to be slippery, making it difficult to maintain proper grip and stability during poses, which can lead to discomfort or even injury. These mats lack alignment guides, making it harder to maintain proper form and posture. They warp under pressure, offering less support for your joints and potentially causing discomfort or strain, ultimately making them unsafe for practice.
Their porous surface can also trap dirt and bacteria, making them unhygienic over time, and often these mats emit a strong chemical smell further disrupting your practice.

Unkind to Your Body
Beyond environmental harm, PVC poses health risks due to its toxic ingredients. The material contains high levels of chlorine and harmful additives like phthalates, which are linked to hormone disruption and other health issues. During your Yoga practice, these chemicals can come into direct contact with your skin, raising potential health risks. These hazardous substances make PVC not only unsuitable for eco-conscious Yogis but also harmful to your body.

Poison Plastic Materials
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is one of the most harmful plastics used in Yoga Mats. Around 40% of all Yoga Mats contain PVC, despite its severe environmental impact.
Dubbed the "poison plastic" by Greenpeace and others, due to its toxic composition and long-term pollution, most PVC Yoga Mats ultimately end up in landfills, where they take hundreds or even thousands of years to break down, releasing harmful chemicals into the environment and contributing to significant environmental damage.
Plus, when burned, PVC releases highly toxic dioxins that contaminate air and water, further damaging the environment.
Although certain materials, such as PVC, are banned in many product categories, the use of PVC in Yoga Mats unfortunately still persists. While recycling may seem like a good option for these mats, it is not an effective solution. The cost is high, the process is inefficient, and, in reality, most of these materials end up in landfills for hundreds or thousands of years, causing further harm to our Planet.
As a business, we’ve explored multiple recycling options for Yoga Mats and have failed to find a viable solution. But we believe that continuing to practice on toxic and useless mats is not a good thing, so we have concluded that the best thing for the Yogis to do is to repurpose those mats. By taking this step, you’re not only making a difference but also supporting a shift towards more sustainable choices.
